About Me...
I'm a Postdoctoral Associate in the Department of Biostatistics at the University of Florida under Dr. Arkaprava Roy, where I develop statistical methods and machine-learning approaches for complex biomedical data. I also work part-time with ISCB's Lead Technologist, Dr. Seth Munholland, on web development and descriptive statistical analysis.
I've always been interested in how technology works at the most basic level. Once I understand the foundations, I usually try to create solutions for the tedious aspects of whatever interface I'm working with, which is what originally drew me toward programming. Whenever I approach software or a tool, I always found myself asking "Why doesn't it do this instead." This curiosity has grown into developing statistical methodology and writing statistical software.
Community involvement is also important to me. I've always enjoyed opportunities to mentor others and contribute where I can, and this started with the online gaming community. Growing up I enjoyed creating third-party tools to make the activities I didn't enjoy in games more efficient, and would be overjoyed when my friends would use and praise the tools I created. Playing with friends and solving puzzles is why I enjoy the deep thinking and group effort of the teams I work with today. Looking back, I can see how these experiences played a big role in shaping both my technical interests and how I work with others.
Today, I continue to draw on those experiences as I work at the intersection of statistics, technology, and collaboration, always looking for opportunities to learn, build, and contribute.
